Welcome
The 2026 Experiments in Electronic Sound offers a platform for musicians and artists whose works blur the boundaries between composition, improvisation, and sound art. The festival follows a rich tradition at CalArts for embracing alternative ways of thinking, being, and creating in relation to electronic sound. By presenting a series of concerts, the Herb Alpert School of Music invites the broader community to come together and share their work. We are excited to listen, discuss, wonder, and enjoy.
2026 Call for Works
Experiments in Electronic Sound is a festival of experimental music concerts hosted by the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts. We will present three concerts in our ROD Concert Hall from September 24 - 26. This is an open call for proposals. All variety of applications are welcome and we believe that a diversity of voices, perspectives, and identities will create the most wonderful sonic events. The concerts will feature experimental music including but certainly not limited to: improvisation with interactive technologies, electro-acoustic music, noise, and field recordings. Improvisers, composer-performers, and groups are welcome to submit proposals as are performers who would like to present new or recent work.
Proposal deadline is Sunday, June 14, 2026
